If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’ve already imagined the finished portrait.
Maybe you’ve admired a classic oval portrait in someone else’s home.
Maybe you’ve always loved the timeless beauty of painterly artwork and have dreamed of creating something similar for your own children.
Or perhaps you’ve reached that bittersweet realization every parent eventually has:
“They don’t look like this anymore.”
Families who commission heirloom portraits rarely begin by thinking about the session itself.
They begin with the end in mind.
They picture walking past a beautifully framed portrait every day. They imagine their children growing up seeing themselves displayed with love and intention. They imagine one day passing that portrait on to the next generation.
An heirloom portrait isn’t simply about creating photographs.
It’s about commissioning artwork that tells your child, both now and years from now, “You were deeply loved, and this season of your childhood was worth remembering.
What Is an Heirloom Portrait?
An heirloom portrait is very different from a traditional family, newborn, or milestone session.
Those sessions tell the story of your family during a particular season of life. They’re filled with connection, movement, and relationships.
An heirloom portrait has a different purpose.
It is intentionally simple.
The focus is entirely on your child.
No elaborate props.
No trendy styling.
No distractions.
Just timeless clothing, beautiful light, and genuine expression.
These portraits are designed to preserve exactly who your child is at this moment—the sparkle in their eyes, the softness of their cheeks, the little grin that greets you every morning.
They become a reminder not only of what your child looked like, but of who they were during this fleeting season of childhood—and what it felt like to be their parent.
Years from now, you’ll remember what they looked like because of the portrait.
But you’ll treasure it because it brings you back to a version of them you’ll never experience again.
Commissioning a Portrait Designed to Last Generations
Unlike many portrait sessions that begin with digital images, heirloom portraits begin with the finished artwork in mind.
Every decision—from wardrobe to lighting to expression—is made knowing the portrait is intended to become a lasting piece of art in your home.
The artwork families most often commission includes:
- Custom framed painterly portraits
- Deckled-edge fine art portraits
- Oval framed heirloom portraits
Many families also choose to add a handcrafted matted album featuring several of their favorite expressions from the session.
While one portrait often becomes the statement piece displayed in the home, the album allows parents to revisit the smiles, thoughtful glances, and subtle expressions that made this season uniquely theirs.
The Investment
The heirloom portrait session fee is $250.
Your commission includes:
- A studio portrait session for one child
- Access to the heirloom wardrobe collection
- Professional editing of your proofing gallery
- A private design appointment where we’ll select your finished artwork together
Additional children may be added for $75 each. Families with three or more children are typically scheduled in back-to-back sessions so every child receives the time and attention they deserve.
The session fee reserves your appointment and covers the creation of your portraits.
Finished artwork is commissioned separately during your design appointment.
What Should I Expect to Invest?
I believe every family deserves clear expectations before booking.
Most families commission one signature heirloom piece that becomes part of their home for decades.
Because each piece is custom designed, handcrafted, and professionally framed, artwork begins at approximately $1,200.
Some families choose a single statement portrait.
Others add a keepsake album or begin a collection they’ll continue adding to as their children grow.
There are no required collections or predetermined packages.
Instead, during your design appointment, we’ll walk through your portraits together and create artwork that fits both your home and the legacy you want to build for your family.
Why Isn’t This Just About Digital Files?
Of course digital images have value.
But heirloom portraits were never designed to live on a phone.
They were designed to become part of your everyday life.
Children notice the portraits hanging in their homes.
They grow up walking past them every morning.
They see themselves displayed with care.
Years later, those portraits often become some of a family’s most treasured possessions—not because they’re old, but because they remind us of a childhood that passed far too quickly.
That’s why the artwork—not simply the digital file—is the heart of the heirloom experience.
What Are You Really Investing In?
You’re investing in more than a portrait session.
You’re investing in slowing time, if only for a moment.
You’re investing in someone who understands how to gently draw out authentic expressions from children without forcing smiles.
You’re investing in artwork created to outlive trends, technology, and changing décor.
Most of all, you’re investing in a daily reminder of someone you love.
Because one day your child’s baby curls will disappear.
The gap-toothed smile will become a teenager’s grin.
The tiny face you’ve memorized will slowly grow older.
An heirloom portrait allows you to hold onto just a little piece of this season forever.
Is an Heirloom Portrait Worth It?
Only you can answer that question.
But I’ve never had a parent tell me they regretted commissioning artwork that reminds them every single day of who their child once was.
Childhood doesn’t ask permission before it changes.
One day you’ll realize your little one no longer has the same round cheeks.
The baby curls are gone.
Their smile has changed.
Their voice sounds different.
An heirloom portrait preserves more than appearance.
It preserves memory.
It preserves love.
It preserves a season that will never come again.
And that’s why families have been commissioning children’s portraits for generations.
