Frequently Asked Questions
Newborn sessions are scheduled when the baby is 10-14 days old. At this time, moms have usually had a little more sleep and their uterus has started to contract. This time frame isn’t necessarily about the baby, but rather about you feeling your best. If you’ve already had your baby and you’re past this time frame, I can photograph babies up to 30 days old and still achieve a modified swaddle look. Please don’t hesitate to reach out using our contact form.
Absolutely! In fact, I would consider myself more of a family-focused newborn photographer. I’ll spend the first 30 minutes of your session photographing just the baby in a swaddle. I use very natural posing methods and allow the baby to guide us in what feels comfortable to them. I will not place your baby in any contorted poses as I want to capture a look that will be timeless decades from now and I want to keep your baby safe. For the remainder of your session, I will focus on each individual connecting with the new baby. I want to capture all the snuggles, kisses, and hugs as everyone experiences your baby for the first time in a formal portrait setting.
Because we book 3-6 months in advance, I would recommend booking when you’re between 13-20 weeks along in your pregnancy. However, if you know you are set on a session with me, then you can book as soon as you find out. I’ve had several clients tell me as soon as they were pregnant to hold a spot. If you’re further along in your pregnancy, please fill out the contact form anyways as I sometimes have last-minute openings.
Newborn sessions are offered on weekdays from 9am-2pm and I usually recommend parents block 2-3 hours for their session plus 1 hour for hair and makeup. We recommend that mom arrives with the new baby for the first hour of hair and makeup and that dad comes with the other siblings once hair and makeup are done. This ensures the other children are fresh and also means less time for dad at the studio.
Our most popular choice among expecting parents is the First Year Baby Plan. The first-year baby plan is a collection of 3-4 sessions, and we reserve a limited number of spots for baby plan members each year. We recommend booking sooner than later if this interests you. By booking the First Year Baby Plan, you will save on session fees and you’ll receive an album credit at each ordering appointment that can be used toward building your baby’s first-year album.
Our most popular milestones are maternity, newborn & first birthday. Otherwise, if you’re not planning to do a maternity session, most families choose newborn, 6 months, and 1st birthday. If you know that you want to remember all the milestones, we recommend maternity, newborn, 6 month, and 1st birthday OR newborn, 4 months, 8 months, and 1st birthday.
