For those of you who know me, you know how much I value craftsmanship, quality, and meaningful ways to preserve memories. That’s why I have trusted Vision Art Album for the past five years. Their albums are unmatched in quality, their customer service is top-tier, and I love that I can tell my clients we support local—each album is handcrafted right here in Iowa.

Because of my deep appreciation for their products, I’ve built a strong relationship with the owners. Recently, I approached them with an idea that I knew photographers would love: a matted folio album. After a deep-dive discussion where we spent over an hour exploring what photographers truly want and need, the Heirloom Matted Folio Album was born.
What is a Matted Folio Album?

A traditional album features a strategic layout of images printed on fine art paper, mounted, and bound into a hardcover book. These are ideal when you have at least 20 images to include. But what if you don’t have 20 images to go to print, and you don’t want to rely on standalone frames?
That’s where the matted folio album shines. This luxurious album requires only a minimum of six images and can accommodate up to 20. It is available in two sizes: 5×7 prints matted to 8×10 or 8×10 prints matted to 11×14. Just like a traditional album has endsheets, the matted folio album includes elegant white endsheets with the option to print custom endsheets, offering a polished, high-end feel.
Photographers can choose to have their prints pre-assembled or opt to print and assemble them later. Pre-assembled matted folios include images printed on Fine Art matte paper with Archival ink, making them museum quality. For those who prefer to build and assemble their folios using their own prints, Vision Art has designed the mats with a single glued side. This allows photographers to pull the glue tabs and tack the print in place after positioning the image, ensuring a perfect fit every time.
Why Choose a Matted Folio Album?

The versatility of this album makes it a must-have for photographers looking to expand their heirloom offerings. Some of the best uses include:
- Mini Sessions: When you only have a handful of stunning images but still want a tangible keepsake.
- Heirloom Portrait Sessions: A perfect way to present timeless, classic portraits.
- Intimate Boudoir Maternity Sessions: Many maternity clients invest in a one-year baby album that evolves over multiple sessions. While they may include lifestyle maternity images in the final album, boudoir images often deserve a separate, more private presentation. The matted folio album is the perfect solution—discreet yet elegant, a treasured keepsake for moms and their partners.
- Build-As-You-Go Memories: I personally plan to use matted folio albums to collect my daughters’ school portraits. By the time they turn 18, they’ll have a beautifully curated collection of all their school photos, presented in a single, luxurious album.
Customization & Luxury Finishes

Just like traditional Vision Art albums, the matted folio album is available in all of their exquisite cover materials. You can also personalize it further by adding a custom stamp to the front. Choose from a minimum of 6 mats, up to 24 mats. With its substantial weight and luxurious feel, this album maintains the elegance of a high-end heirloom product while offering an adaptable format for various photography collections.
