Iowa City Light and Airy Newborn Photographer
I’ll never forget when Kelsey first contacted me.
It was the beginning of December and she had delivered their baby boy 4 weeks early. Little did I know that only days later I would come down with COVID.
Kelsey knew from the beginning she was interested in the First Year Collective, which is our exclusive membership that captures all of baby’s important milestones over the first year. I only take a limited number of First Year Collective members each month, so I was so excited when Kelsey said that’s what they wanted to do.
Like I often do on our phone consultations with new potential clients, I asked Kelsey if they had done anything with their wedding photos. She and Eric were married a year ago in December 2020 at the beautiful St. Regis Deer Valley, but they haven’t had time to do create a wedding album. Eric is a busy physician for Unity Point and Kelsey is a busy new mom and nurse for the University.
I told them not to worry and that I would be happy to design their wedding album for them. I know the families that choose me are busy and so I’m always happy to create albums or artwork from past sessions where they may not have received completed artwork.
After I recovered from COVID, I was able to schedule their newborn session right before Christmas. Kelsey’s makeup by Brooke at Salon Zola was absolutely perfect and the dusty blue dress from our client wardrobe looked perfect with her pretty red hair. Their session was stress free, enjoyable, and laid back with a couple nursing breaks. I always enjoy the nursing breaks because it gives me a time to get to know my families. I learned that the Andresens are total foodies and so we bonded over discussing our favorite restaurants.
At their ordering appointment, we started the morning by reviewing a slideshow of their beautiful photos. I’m so excited for the two galleries we designed together – one for Christian’s nursery that will showcase him growing over the three milestone sessions and one for their living room that will tell the story of their family over his first year. We also selected images for his baby album that will grow over our remaining session together.
From there, I showed them the 60 page wedding album I designed for them. As I was working through Kelsey’s gorgeous wedding photos, I tried to think about the images which would best tell the story from their day. You want a book to flow chronologically but you also want it to show the organic, emotion of the day. Kelsey and Eric were thrilled with the proposed design and didn’t make any changes. We custom designed a debossing cover which highlighted the beautiful mountains of Utah because that was a theme from their wedding day. It was so fun to deliver their book on their second Valentine’s Day together and see how much they enjoyed the completed book.
